Did you know there are girls in South Australia who cannot afford to buy products to manage their period? Imagine not having access to period underwear, a menstrual cup, tampon or even a pad when you need it.
Each month those affected by period poverty experience the shame of having to ask friends or teachers for menstrual products or they simply stay home and miss out on their education or activities.
The Marshall Government has taken the first step towards addressing period poverty in South Australian schools via a grants scheme, but there is more work to be done to truly address period poverty in the state.
If 10,000 or more signatures are obtained the petition will be referred to the Legislative Review Committee who will investigate the petition and report back to both Houses.
South Australian students should have access to period products that can be managed autonomously, enable full school participation and align with the state’s own goals to limit single use plastics.
South Australia does not accept scanned copies of a petition, it must be the originals.
Ask your friends and family to sign the petition as well. Just remember they need to be a current resident of SA.
Mail your petition to
Hon Irene Pnevmatikos
Parliament House North Terrace

We will post a copy of the petition along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to return the document back to us to present to the South Australian parliament.
