Go back to school with these 4 period hacks

Jan 10, 2023Michelle Baker

Whether you’re currently in school or your teen years are behind you, we’ve all had that gut-wrenching feeling of our period showing up unexpectedly. Sitting in class wondering, did I pack an extra pair of undies? Have I left a stain on the chair? Can everyone else smell that? Cue ✨panic✨.

The best way to avoid that feeling is to be prepared. But, HOW? You can get an idea of when your period might arrive by tracking it through an app or manually with your phone’s calendar. As a teenager, though, it’s totally normal for your menstrual cycle to be irregular sometimes. So if your period keeps popping up unannounced at school, follow these handy tips to avoid accidents and stay stress-free.

Tip #1 Layer up

No, not like winter layers. We mean layer up with period undies. For extra protection under your school uniform, you can try our new Teen Hipster School Shorts which come in Moderate-Heavy absorbency. With a full coverage yet discreet style, they’re designed to feel extra safe and secure, especially under skirts and dresses. Our three-layer absorbent lining will have you covered during heavy period days – but if you’re still worried about leaks, you can wear period undies as a backup alongside other period products, like tampons or cups. Win-win.

Tip #2 Pack a spare

So you chuck your hair into a claw clip, swipe on some lip gloss, slip on your period undies in the morning and you’re good to go, right? Well, not quite. Depending on the heaviness of your period, you may need to change a few times throughout the day. Before heading to school, to a friend's house, or after school sports, make sure to throw a second or third pair of Modibodi in your bag. Our Teen Hipster Bikini is a great option to easily change into when you start feeling like you need a fresh pair.

Tip #3 Bring a wet bag

Think of this as another tool in your period survival kit. You never know when you might need to change into a new pair of period underwear. When it happens, you’ll need somewhere to store the used pair until you get home to rinse them out and throw them in the wash. Changing your Modibodi at school is a breeze with our wet bag. It’s perfect for popping your used pair in, without anybody ever knowing.

Tip #4 Remember it’s normal

Getting your period at school is nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s a normal part of life and shows our bodies are just doing their thing. If you do find yourself getting stressed, take a deep breath. Talk to your BFF, a trusted teacher or have an emergency contact ready to text who can help bring you some supplies or take you home. It’s important to listen to your body and take care of yourself.
