5 times celebrities got really real about their periods

When it comes to talking about your monthly visit from Mother Nature, most clam up, pipe down and shut up. Periods have a tendency to become a hush-hush topic of conversation within families, amongst friends and most definitely in the media—which is why we want to celebrate the few A-Listers who have been candid in the press about their periods.

Jennifer Lawrence

The undisputed Queen of all things #relatable, Jennifer Lawrence is known for oversharing on less-than-glamourous topics. When speaking to Harper’s BAZAAR, J-Law admitted that she had to have a last-minute outfit change during awards season due to her cycle.
“Plan A was a dress that I couldn’t wear because awards season is synced with my menstrual cycle, and it has been for years.” She changed into a second Dior number because, “It was loose at the front. And I didn’t have to worry about sucking anything in. The other dress was really tight, and I’m not going to suck in my uterus. I don’t have to do that”. Preach!

Miley Cyrus

During an interview with Marie Claire, Miley discussed her Disney career—including the embarrassing moment she got her period for the first time ever while on the set of Hannah Montana. In white pants, we should add. “It was so embarrassing,” she said. “I couldn’t leave. And I was crying, begging my mum, ‘You’re going to have to put the tampon in. I have to be on set’.” Honestly, what a nightmare. If only she had a pair of RED’s on hand…

Katy Perry

When pregnancy rumours were being spread about the singer, Katy headed straight to Twitter to set the record straight—using her period as her all-natural alibi. “Ur gonna make me cry, maybe that’s my period tho,” she wrote. “THAT’S RIGHT I’M BLEEDING. Face. Better luck next month peepz.”

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato admitted that her family threw a full coming-of-age celebration when she first got her period. Demi Lovato’s sister made a card using stick figures, red marker, and lipstick kisses that said, “Happy Period Day!” for her first period. “On one hand, I was totally embarrassed, on the other, I thought it was awesome,” the singer told People magazine.
