Periods and autism

Chloé Hayden is an award winning motivational speaker, actor, performer, author, influencer, content creator and disability rights activist and advocate, the heart of which these all intersect being her passion for creating change, celebrating diversity, and pushing towards a better future.

Diagnosed as autistic (and ADHD) at the age of thirteen and feeling ostracised from society, Chloe started an anonymous blog to share her feelings and to find a community, and ended up building something bigger than she ever dreamed.
Now, Chloe is a power house in advocacy and a worldwide known name, with platforms of half a million followers and nearly half a billion views, in-person presentations at seminars, conferences, schools and her own tours in three continents to over a hundred thousand people, and star of Netflix's Heartbreak High hit show.

With her messages of ‘Different, Not Less’ and ‘Find Your Eye Sparkle’, Chloé is fighting for a better future for those who’s voices have been silenced for too long.

"Periods as a whole have always been something of great challenge to me, and to many other autistic folk; autism often meaning that periods are immensely more intense. Sensory issues increase, pain is magnified, and studies have now shown that autistic folk have higher rates of menstrual problems including irregular cycles, unusually painful periods, excessive bleeding, polycystic ovarian syndrome is 2.5 times more frequent, and autistics with epilepsy have immensely increased seizure activity.

Menstrual products and menstrual conversation is never one that was designed with disabled and neurodivergent people in mind, leaving us often feeling outcast, confused and unsure.

Period products have long been my biggest issue on my period- most products being painful, uncomfortable, heightening my already heightened sensory issues, or being dangerous and unaccessible with executive dysfunction and burn out.
Thanks to Modibodi’s collection, myself and other youth that menstruate are given products that are safe, sensory friendly and accessible.

Periods still aren’t my favourite thing in the world, ‘period positivity’ will never be a title I can relate to- but, after exclusively using Modibodi for three years, I can safely say that my periods no longer hold me back from thriving."
