Modibodi Period Underpants as a gift

Mindful Gifting Guide

Dec 09, 2020Sabin Bhuju

You’re at this years’ office Secret Santa, and you get another cheap plastic gag gift that will likely go straight into the bin at the end of the party.

Why not give a gift that can be used again, and again, and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill this Christmas? This year we created our Mindful Gifting pack which includes a limited-edition colour in three different styles and absorbencies, so you can give someone the gift of comfort, style and help them reduce their use of disposables.

Throughout the year we work with brands that have similar values to ours, we love supporting like-minded businesses that are making a great impact on the planet.

Here’s our pick of other sustainable, ethical, not-your-average eco gifts to impress your mates.

Kappi

Fred and Emma (husband and wife) created Kappi in 2017 to fill a need for beautifully-designed, incredibly functional and fairly priced reusable alternatives to single use plastics for the home. “Our visions is to end plastic pollution! We wanted to create products that we would be proud to carry around with us everywhere. Get kitted out with their instagram-ablekitchenware, drink bottles, reusable razors and toothbrushes, and more!

Pod and Parcel

Buying for a caffeine addict? While coffee machines are great for reducing single use coffee cups, the coffee pods themselves can take 150-500 years to breakdown in landfill – much like disposable pads and tampons. Melbourne company Pod and Parcel have developed compostable pods! So not only are you getting Melbourne grade coffee, you can compost the pods in your green waste so they can break down. Why not buy someone a subscription? Buy online, no wrapping involved, easy-peasy.

The Goodnight Co

Hands up who hasn’t had a rough 2020? No one? It’s been a rough year for us all and The Goodnight Co are here to help you sleep better. Their mission: “Sleep well, be well — this simple truth has the power to change lives for the better and our goal is to find the pathway to make this happen for you!. They have a range of gift sets starting from $30 ranging to $150 depending on your Secret Santa budget.

LUSH

Conscious gifting is ‘their thing’. LUSH products are 100% vegetarian, they buy all their ingredients ethically, continuously fight animal testing, are handmade in Australia, have naked packaging (no plastic) and they smell bloody great! Choose from face-masks, bath bombs, oils, shampoos and more so your mates can scrub up nicely and not feel guilty about it. They also have Christmas gift sets from $23.

Peaches Pilates

During lockdown we were forced to get creative when it came to keeping fit with the closure of gyms and studios. We saw the rise of online classes and we are glad to see them stick around to be honest! We are big fans of Peaches Pilates and we personally wouldn’t mind receiving an online gift card in our stocking this year. Get your sweat on and give the gift that keeps on giving (all year in fact!), and something that requires no waste at all.

Sunbutter

We take our sun safety serious at Modibodi, and so do Sunbutter Skin Care! In 2016 marine biologist and conservation ecologist team Sacha Guggenheimer and Tom Hiney were learning about the negative impacts of chemical sunscreen pollution on our oceans, and in particular coral reefs. They then set out to develop a sunscreen that had the highest sun protection but also did not have an adverse effect on the marine life and corals. Protecting people and our oceans! To top it off, Sunbutter is made in Australia in a solar powered factory and come in reusable and recyclable material that is BPA free! The gift for the active and outdoorsy mate that is eco conscious.

Other suggestions of gifts that require less, or no, waste:

  • Cooking classes – why not buy two tickets and join them for a night out of yummy food and learn a different cuisine! We are all about ‘experience’ gifting.
  • Tickets to a show – now that venues are reopening it feels like a novelty to get dressed up and go out. Support the arts industry this Christmas (they need it after 2020).
  • Pottery or clay classes studios seem to be popping up all over Australia and we love it! Most classes let you take home your creation at the end of the class. Get creative.

Give sustainable, give mindful. Avoid contributing to landfill this year and give them a gift they can use and they’ll actually enjoy. (Period Undies yayy!) It could also be a good time to gift Modibodi to a friend that has been too sceptical to take the leap yet! Check out our Mindful Gifting pack here. .
