Climate action

We believe all businesses have a responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve climate change literacy - including us.

Climate Change

The warming of our climate is the most pressing environmental issue we face, and the biggest risk to our business. Taking action to limit climatewarming to 1.5C is crucial to prevent more frequent and severe weather events, such as storms, floods, fires and the resulting poverty and displacement of millions of people.

Carbon Audit

Each year we complete a carbon audit to calculate the emissions created to make our products. Most of our emissions are created from the energy required for freight, marketing and professional service organisations (electricity).  As a textile brand who does not own the manufacturing process our highest emissions are in our Scope 3 supply chain.

FY 2021 Total Emissions:
6840.53 t CO2-e

CY 2022 Total Emissions:
6,839.69 t CO2-e

Progress:
Our CY2022 sales were higher than FY2021, but our emissions remained stable.

Our progress improvements are supported by:

  • Modibodi HQ is powered by 100% carbon neutral energy.
  • 90% freight shipped, which is approx. 30% lower carbon emissions than air freight.
  • UK warehouse operates 100% renewable energy.

Transport and Freight

As a global brand, we know that delivering products to customers worldwide creates carbon emissions. Our products predominantly travel by ship from our manufacturing hub in Asia to our warehouses in the UK, Europe and Australia. As part of our emissions reduction plan, in 2022 we will streamline our distribution model into the Americas, allowing us to move more product via ship rather than by air.

For customer deliveries we use a combination of trucks and air freight, and partner with companies who setting carbon emission targets.

A Life Cycle Analysis

We know that our products are a great alternative to single use disposables, so we tested this to understand how they compare.  The results of our Life Cycle Assessment for our recycled nylon pant and four types of gussets show Modibodi reusable guests have lower carbon emissions than single use disposable equivalents.

In 2021 we undertook a life-cycle assessment (LCA), a data analysis, to identify the environmental impacts of our leak-proof underpants by reviewing raw material extraction, transport, manufacturing, distribution, customer use and end of life.

The results of our Life Cycle Assessment for our recycled nylon pant and four types of gussets show Modibodi reusable guests have lower carbon emissions than single use disposable equivalents.

Interesting Fact: Customers can reduce their emissions and water usage by following our care instructions - washing in cold water with full load and line drying which is also great for the longevity of the pants.

Two years of use: A Modibodi gusset has 33% to 59% lower GHG emissions as compared to equivalent tampons and pads. *

Four years of use: A Modibodi gusset has 63% to 77% lower GHG emissions as compared to equivalent tampons and pads. *

*This Peer Reviewed LCA data is based on four gussets (stitched within MB pants - being washed and reused) in comparison to equivalent pads or tampons.
